Coffee has been in the news lately! In July, the American Heart Association released a new scientific statement reviewing the relationship between coffee consumption and cardiovascular health. Its conclusion was reassuring: for most adults, consuming up to 400 mg of caffeine per day — roughly the amount found in up to five 8-ounce cups of caffeinated coffee — appears to be not just safe from a cardiovascular standpoint, but also associated with a lower risk of Type 2 diabetes, and several cardiovascular conditions, including heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and irregular heart rhythms. Of course, this doesn’t mean all of us should start drinking five cups of coffee a day - each of us reacts differently to caffeine, and some of us can metabolize it a lot quicker than others - yet, it does mean that your daily coffee habit can have unexpected long-term health benefits! The AHA statement also emphasizes this applies to coffee without large amounts of added sugar, which is exactly the type of coffee our Ethos family is most likely to enjoy! Here’s a link to the American Heart Association's full scientific statement.
Plus, there’s a lot more to coffee besides caffeine. Coffee is an extraordinarily complex beverage containing hundreds of other biologically active compounds, including polyphenols, on which there’s an extensive body of research regarding their long-term antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, health-promoting benefits.
As you know, we at Ethos believe great coffee should do more than taste good and wake us up in the morning. It should connect us to the people who grow it, the people who enjoy it with us, and the impact we choose to make in those seemingly small moments in our day when we get to slow down and enjoy it. Science is now giving us one more reason to cherish our daily coffee ritual. Here's to your next cup — and to striving to Brew Greatness every day,
Lisbeth
